Asian new year tet
January 23rd, ushers in the Lunar Year of the Dragon. Xoi This is the Vietnamese classic: sticky rice. On Tet, families will prepare a feast to welcome visiting relatives and friends, to exchange greetings and best wishes for the New Year. This year TET is February th. As I've mentioned many times, there is a tradition of abstaining from meat from the day before the new year through the day after. Cost: Free and open to the public. Negative talk, and arguments are taboo.

Symbols and figures of good luck and prosperity are on display Monday, Feb. Make a large orange tree on the bulletin board to hang farewell wish cards on. During Tet, Vietnamese visits their relatives and temples, forgetting the troubles of the past year and hoping for a better upcoming year. In other time, they are not on the same day. Before Tet Before Tet, Vietnamese families will normally spend a lot of time sweeping and cleaning their homes. Take part in the festival by trying the traditional Vietnamese food!

Because of this, it has become a custom of many Vietnamese people to start a new business or expand their existing enterprises. Vietnamese also pay tribute to their ancestors throughout Tet. Visitors end their visit with a farewell wish for the family such as, "I wish that money will flow into your house like water, and out like a turtle. Traditionally, it is an occasion for family reunion; for family members and friends to wish good luck to each other; for children to have chance to wear new clothes in celebration. Also, many tourist spots are closed for several days between Tet. Bring the whole family and join us to celebrate Lunar New Year and learn about the heritages of Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Japanese cultures.
